Status of the different tests

  Introduced. The first test was held on 15 August 2026 as a pilot test. A new regular date has not been published.

  Reading and listening comprehension test

  Being introduced

  The legislation is linked to 1 October 2027, or an earlier date decided by the government.

  Spoken and written Swedish

  Coming later

  The government decides the date it takes effect. Migrationsverket states that the special Swedish test will be offered at the earliest in autumn 2027.

  SEK 2,000 from 2027

  The ordinance sets the fee at SEK 2,000 per citizenship test, applied for the first time to tests held in 2027. Certain stateless people with refugee status or travel documents are exempt.

  UHR states that information is forthcoming. The August test's roughly 60 questions in 90 minutes do not apply as the future standard.
