Do I need to take the citizenship test?
As a main rule, the knowledge requirement applies to you if you are between 16 and 66 years old. But the test is only one of the ways to meet it – passing grades can be enough.

Short answer
- You only take the test if the Migration Agency notifies you to do so. You can't book it yourself.
- The Migration Agency first looks at your grades and qualifications. If they're enough, you don't need a test.
- As a main rule, the knowledge requirement applies to people between 16 and 66 years old at the time of application.
- Exceptions can be made if a disability or other personal circumstances mean the requirement can't reasonably be met.
Qualifications that can replace the test

The Migration Agency makes the legal assessment in your individual case. A qualification being on this list is no guarantee that yours will be accepted.
The language requirement is a separate requirement
The civics test tests civic knowledge, not Swedish. The language requirement already exists in law, but UHR's dedicated Swedish test has not yet been introduced. The Migration Agency describes the level as functional level (CEFR B1) in reading and listening comprehension, and basic level (CEFR A2) in speaking and writing. In the meantime, a passing grade in Swedish or Swedish as a second language, a passed SFI course D, Tisus, or another acceptable language test can be used, among other things.
