Grundlag (constitutional law)
A law that is harder to change and that protects democracy.
Sweden has four fundamental laws: the Instrument of Government, the Act of Succession, the Freedom of the Press Act, and the Fundamental Law on Freedom of Expression. Changing a fundamental law requires two identical Riksdag decisions with an election in between.
Why it matters
The fundamental laws make it difficult for a temporary majority to abolish democracy.
